I love grass seed too

January 3rd, 2011

I have been getting some grass seed to grow in my lawn this year already. I have found that Midwest lawns need to have fresh seeds infused every year to keep the lawn very healthy.

The way to grow seed is three fold.

water a whole lot – this one is where most homeowners fall down and fail. they water good for a couple days but then they stop. what happens then is that the seeds only barely begin to germinate and then stop and dont grow. this is a problem fo sho! you gotta water more than you think and water for days and days up to 3 weeks or more

second you need to have warm temps – if the weather is not conducive to good growth, the seed will either germinate and die from freezing or from heat stress. New grass seedlings are susceptible to bad temps.

THe last piece is that there needs to adequate soil for the grass to root down into. it must have soil to grab into so it can survive for the long haul.

that is it. grow grass seed my friends!

If I’m going to describe our lawn care today, I can describe it in three words: dry, devastated and unhappy. Five years ago, our lawn was neat and pleasing to look at. That’s because of my sister who takes care of it for a cause. Back then, her baby will be turning 1 so she made it a point to make our lawn presentable for the guests. She makes sure that the grass and plants are well hydrated. She won’t even let anyone step into the grass for she said it may “die”. So to make the long story short, after her baby’s birthday, the lawn started to dry up and no one is bothering to take care of it. I wish I wasn’t that busy so I can be the one to take of it. I tried researching on how to revitalize a ruined lawn and this is what I got. 1. Clean the lawn. 2. Dig out the top soil about 4 to 6 inches and replace it with Read the rest of this entry »

Lawn Care Chemicals

April 17th, 2010

Sometimes I tend to neglect caring for my lawn. I remember when I first planted on my soil where my lawn grew I was so excited about it. I check it out almost always, make sure it receives enough water, I weed it occasionally by myself (that’s without the use of weeding chemicals), I even try and take measures to make sure it receives just the right amount of sunlight! Lawn care is pretty addictive at first, and more once you see your lawn produce the perfect and healthy grass. Dark green evenly colored grass and the right height. That’s a perfect lawn for me.

But you can’t always maintain that passion about your lawn. To me it got old and it just started being a task. I started forgetting to water my lawn at times. Then weeds started growing. Eventually insects and pests infested my lawn. I’m not proud of it but I think everybody has to go through with the plateau that is “neglecting you lawn”. What is important is how you can recover and strive afterwards to once again achieve and rekindle the passion that got lost. Having a lawn is like a lifetime commitment. It literally is. You’ll always have to tend to it as it gets older.

Lawn Care Weeds

April 17th, 2010

Weeds have always been a major problem when we talk about my lawn. I can’t seem to find the perfect solution to making my lawn as weed free as possible. I spend hours of back crunching work just to pull out and dig trouble-some weeds that have sprouted in my lawn. You may think I’m crazy being too old fashioned in caring for my lawn. But I like to keep it that way. I do know that there are better and much easier ways on how to rid my lawn of weeds such as the use of weed killers, but I still want to stick with the good old way of digging and cutting it out yourself. I don’t know, but I think it helps me express and show my appreciation for my lawn. It’s not really that hard a job once you get used to it. Weeding your lawn manually can even be fun and healthy at times. You get exercise and you get a good looking lawn. How’s that for benefits? You just have to do it for the right reasons. Otherwise, you’ll be better off just purchasing weed killers that require less work and produce better results.

Lawn Grass

April 1st, 2009

What kind of grass does your lawn cater to? There are numerous types of grass. They differ vaguely with one another. Some people may not be able to point out such difference between different varities of grass at first glance but you can surely tell how they are unique if you take a closer look maybe even feel the grass a little.

I’m from a place where the weather is kind of warm (you might even want to consider the weather here tropical) that’s why I chose to plant bermuda grass in my lawn. This type of grass would do well in a hot location. It has a fine texture and vigorous quality that tolerates drought, salt, and traffic. It doesn’t need a lot of watering in fact; I overwatered mine a couple of times thus, leading to infestations from fungus and insects. But now I learned my lesson and I schedule watering my bermuda grass well and make it a point that my grass receives just the right amount of liquid.
Isn’t it amusing how we have different varieties of grass that would best fit our lifestyle, needs, and surrounding? I find bermuda grass to be most suitable for me. What about you guys? What kind of grass appeals best to you?
